SOW (Statement of Work)

A Statement of Work (SOW) is a detailed document within a solicitation that describes the specific tasks, deliverables, timelines, and standards for a contract. The SOW defines exactly what the contractor must do.

How It Works

The SOW is the most critical document in any solicitation. It defines the scope of work, performance standards, deliverables, milestones, and acceptance criteria. A well-written proposal addresses every element of the SOW. Missing a SOW requirement in your proposal can result in a lower evaluation score or disqualification.

Example

A SOW for an IT support contract specifies: help desk staffing levels, response time requirements (15 minutes for critical issues), monthly reporting requirements, equipment specifications, and performance metrics.
