RFQ (Request for Quote)

A Request for Quote (RFQ) is a solicitation where the government agency knows exactly what they need and is primarily seeking the best price. Vendors submit price quotes rather than full proposals.

How It Works

RFQs are typically used for standardized goods and services where specifications are clear. The evaluation is primarily price-based — the lowest responsive, responsible bidder usually wins. RFQs are faster to respond to than RFPs and common for commodity purchases, equipment, and well-defined services.

Example

A county needs 500 cases of paper towels delivered monthly. They issue an RFQ specifying exact product requirements and delivery schedule. Vendors submit their per-case pricing.
