NAICS Code

NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) codes are six-digit numbers that categorize businesses by industry. Government agencies use NAICS codes to classify contract opportunities and determine small business size standards.

How It Works

Your NAICS codes determine which contracts you can bid on and whether you qualify as a small business for set-aside purposes. Each NAICS code has a corresponding size standard (either revenue or employee count). Businesses should list all applicable NAICS codes on their SAM.gov profile — most businesses qualify for 3 to 8 codes.

Example

A cybersecurity firm lists NAICS 541690 (Scientific and Technical Consulting), 541512 (Computer Systems Design), and 541519 (Other Computer Related Services) on their SAM.gov profile to match the broadest range of relevant contracts.
