WOSB/EDWOSB (Women-Owned Small Business)

WOSB (Women-Owned Small Business) and EDWOSB (Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business) are certifications for businesses at least 51% owned and controlled by women. The federal government targets 5% of contracting dollars for WOSBs.

How It Works

WOSB set-asides are available in industries where women-owned businesses are underrepresented. EDWOSB set-asides are available in industries where they are substantially underrepresented. Certification is through the SBA or an approved third-party certifier. Sole-source awards are available up to $7M for services and $4.5M for goods.

Example

A woman-owned engineering firm bids on an Army Corps of Engineers contract set aside for WOSBs. Competition is limited to other certified WOSB firms, reducing the bidder pool significantly.
