Capability Statement

A capability statement is a one-to-two page marketing document that summarizes your company's qualifications, experience, and differentiators for government buyers. It is the business card of government contracting.

How It Works

Every government contractor needs a professional capability statement. Key elements include: company overview, core competencies, past performance highlights, NAICS codes, certifications (8(a), SDVOSB, etc.), CAGE code, UEI number, DUNS number (if still referenced), and contact information. Bring printed copies to industry days, small business matchmaking events, and agency small business office meetings. Keep it to two pages maximum.

Example

At an Army Industry Day event, a contractor hands their one-page capability statement to the small business liaison. It highlights three relevant past performance examples, their SDVOSB certification, and the specific NAICS codes matching the upcoming procurement.
